I technically play
several instruments, but the core instruments I play would be the cello
and the piano. I started piano when I was 6 (I'm now 16). I started the
cello 3 years ago, with also a 8 month pause due to cello injuries (and
it just rebroke..cello repairs are so expensive!!) I played clarinet for
3 years during middle school/early high school, and also the penny
whistle (way to go Annalyse!). I love all these different instruments,
some more than others, but they are all unique, fun, and I'll admit
challenging at times!
While I'm definitely not a composer, I love to
play by ear and make stuff up on the piano. Most of my music experience
comes from many opportunities I have been given in my church to serve.
The more opportunities that have opened, the more I have had to
practice, and It has definitely stretched me. So I would encourage you
to embrace your instrument(s) and learn as much as you can about it and
go all out for God's glory. You never know how He might allow you to
impact others through music and how you might get to serve Him! Never
stop pushing yourself!
Thanks so much, Hope! If you want to do an "Introduce Yourself" post, email me at musicwriter941@gmail.com.
Hey Hope so glad that you're able to serve your church by doing music for them! I regularly play piano in church and it really is a blessing to do so. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteYou get to play at church regularly? Luckyyyyy!!!! :) Are you the church pianist?
DeleteYeah I lead worship on the piano every week for their 8:30am service.
DeleteThat's so cool. How old are you? I'm 15 and I really wanna play violin in the church band...
DeleteI'm 17 right now but I got the job literally one week after I turned 16. Cool, just ask your church if you can play for them. They'll probably be fine with it :-)
DeleteWe already have a pianist though... :( But she's really good! And I've been asked to be a fill in if she can't make it sometime.
DeleteHey Cole, Thanks! Thats awesome that you get to use your piano abilities at your church. I bet its a great opportunity(and a lot of work!). We have quite a few pianist at our church, but if the need ever arises, I would love to play weekly at a church. In the meantime, playing for special music, assisted living services, and offertories seem to keep me busy!
DeleteIt really is a great opportunity and can be kinda difficult sometimes. No worries if all you guys can do is fill in sometimes! Our old church had an 80-something year old pianist and she was really good so I started out by filling in for her. And then when I found out about the opening at our current church I jumped at the opportunity. So keep filling in and keep your eyes open for greater opportunities...they're out there!
DeleteHi Hope! I have some friends who play the clarinet...it is a beautiful instrument! =D
