Introduce Yourself: Annalysa

So I'd like to do an "Introduce Yourself" post on  someone different every week so if you want to do one, send me an email at musicwriter941@gmail.com. I'm sure we'd all like to get to know each other!

Since I'm here, I thought I might as well introduce myself...

My name is Annalysa and I'm 15 years old. I play piano, violin, cello, penny whistle, and I'm working on guitar. We have a banjo and an accordion and I have an ocarina but I haven't really progressed on those quite yet. My ocarina is mainly for playing around since it only plays an octave and a half...not too easy to play hard songs with.

I started playing piano when I was 2, violin when I was 6, and cello just last Christmas (not 2014, but 2013...okay, two Christmases ago, then) and penny whistle is kind of a hobby I picked up after I watched The Willis Clan play. Not that I'm as good as Jet, but I hope to be sometime.

I love music and just found that I could compose music last Mother's Day. I've written several songs too, and I hope to get a CD out one of these days, although by the time I actually do get it out, it'll probably be more on iTunes than CD. Does anyone actually use CD's anymore besides me and my family? :)

I'm really excited to get to know other like-minded musicians who love music as much as I do - who knows, maybe we'll be able to get to meet each other in person sometime! :)

Anyway, that's a little bit about me. I want to hear from y'all too, so send me an email if you want to do an "Introduce Yourself" post! I hope to post one every Saturday if I get enough!! :)

Now go change the world!

  1. Huh...not sure where all the guys from the Rebelution are. Anyways someone's gotta start the conversation :-) I'm Cole but you probably know me better by my Disqus username: Steelers Fan. So what kind of music are we talking about here? Classical? Contemporary? Rock? All of the above?

  2. Hey Cole! :)

Hey, we can just spread the word - eventually we'll get 'em on here. Meanwhile, you can tell your musical friends. Hopefully I can get some of my musical friends on here too - do you have a musical group of friends?

Thanks for coming on! :) Haha, maybe as people post on the Rebelution about being musical, we can somehow get them on here... :)

Yeah, all of the above, all types (within reason, no explicit songs or anything, of course) :) Do you wanna do an Introduction Post this Saturday?

    1. Hi Anna Lysa! Looks like we got Hope onboard with us :-) You can feature her this week maybe you can do me next week. To be honest I'm an awful recruiter but I'll put the link to this page on my Disqus profile. I do know a bunch of people who go to my piano teacher but I don't have any of their contact info :-( Yeah no explicit music! I resolved a long time ago not to listen to anything explicit and it has kept me from who-knows-what. So I'm subscribed to a lot of music channels on Youtube and featured a couple of my favorite. Feel free to check them out!

    Thanks!

    1. Hey Hope! Glad you found us! :) I will be looking for your email! :)

Thanks for the links, Cole! :)

So, what instruments do y'all play? What's your favorite type of music?

    2. Hey hey love the logo! I've played piano for 12 years and guitar for 6. For piano I'm mostly classicly trained and I just play whatever I feel like on the guitar. I know it's crazy being classicly trained, but I love listining to hard rock and dubstep. However, I'll listen to nearly anything as long as it's musical :-)

    3. :) I like the Piano Guys style, jazz - jazz is like, my fav! - I also like Irish music - I tried to teach myself the techniques but it was hard!!! I think you have to be trained personally in it. Not from youTube videos (lol).

:) I actually haven't been trained at all in jazz but I hope to with my new piano teacher (I haven't had one in like 7 or 8 months)

    4. Another Piano Guys fan! Have you seen their version of "What Makes you Beautiful" by One Direction? I really don't like 1D but this is amazing!

    5. Of course!!!! Yeah, it's the only 1D song I've heard.
      But it's beautiful!

    7. Yo Riley it's Steelers Fan from the Rebelution! So glad you found this blog ;-)

    8. Haha Steelers Fan is that you?? (Or should I say Cole? ;)) Yep I found it. I've played piano for like 9 years, cello for 1, and my next goal is to learn guitar...so I thought I might be qualified to join the club :)

    9. Yep it's me :-) Now you know the guy behind the anonymous user name. Sure you're in! I have played guitar for a fairly long time so maybe I can help steer you in the right direction. First off...do you have a guitar to start with?

      Delete
    10. Thanks, I'll take any help I can get :). Yeah it's a five stringed acoustic.

      Delete
    11. Huh? Five strings? You're gonna want a guitar with six strings, that's standard for acoustic guitars. Here's a list of good guitars I found, I would also add the Applause by Ovation, those are nice entry-level guitars.

    12. Whoops, I meant six strings =D. Yeah, that would be a little awkward, haha. I'll check out that site though.

    13. Lol that would be a little hard :-) Do you know how to read chord charts? That's really the easiest way to start.

      Delete
    14. I know the chord chart basics. To be honest I know next to nothing at this point, most of my musical knowledge comes from the piano, which has helped me with the cello and I thought it might transfer some (chord wise) to the guitar. Do you think it's possible for me teach myself? I know there's a lot of internet stuff out there but I wouldn't know where to start...

      Delete
    15. Yes there is a ton of crossover between piano chords and guitar! The great thing about guitar is that there is LOTS of free stuff on the internet. Sure you can teach yourself, I've taught myself the whole way. Youtube is a great place to learn it on. Another great source is SongSelect, they have chords for nearly every contemporary Christian song imaginable. You gotta pay for it:-( but maybe your church already has a subscription and will sign you on for free, that's how I use it.

      Delete
    16. SongSelect looks awesome!! I've been trying to find something just like that to help me out with playing worship on the piano. But yeah I would have to pay for it, my church doesn't have a subscription :(. I come from a pretty tiny local church, nothing fancy :). Do you ever play for your church?

      Delete
    17. Hey Riley I did a little research on SongSelect and only organizations (like churches) can get access to it :-( The good news is that they have a TON of public domain music (think old hymns) that you can access for free without even an account!!! I put the link to it below. Annalysa was also asking about playing piano for church so I posted more about it in the comment section of the latest "Introduce Yourself" post.

    2. I play Piano and am starting to learn the flute =D
I like all sorts of music =D
I like playing songs from movies (LOTR probably being my favorite) =D

    3. Just because I know you doesn't mean everyone else on here does! :D

      Delete
    4. You can't get out of it. Sorry. :D

      Delete
    5. Lol. I honestly know next to nothing about the flute. Just out of curiosity, is it used in any other genres than classical?

      Delete
    6. ummm.....I don't know....I would think so =D I plan on using it in other genres =P I'm not crazy about classical music =D though I do like the Piano Guys =D

      Delete
    7. It's used a lot in Irish music... It sounds really cool. I think they have a special type but it is called the Irish flute... :)

And if you get bored with that, you can learn this:

If you ever do, I have to hear it. And see it... :)

  6. Hi Annalysa! I found your blog! :) I came over here from the Reb. I've played piano for like 9 years, cello for about 1, and I really want to learn to play guitar! So am I in??

    1. Hey Riley! Absolutely! :) Anyone who plays an instrument, sings, or does anything related to music is welcome! :) Glad you found your way over!!! :)

  7. I guess that includes me, cause I can at least sing! I also play the violin, piano, and saw. I love unusual instruments and that's why I started playing the saw. I love it! Any other saw lovers out there?!? :):):)
